Ray Hatfield: Skinning & Hide Prep of a Lifesize Black Bear

Ray starts with the initial belly incision, which is typically required for rug mounts. However, the rest of the procedure can then be applied to ANY bear mount, which is, how to split the lips, flesh the eyes and nostrils, and turn the ears. Ray also shows you how to skin out the paw pads and the toes. He then demonstrates the fleshing process using a fleshing beam, and then salting the hide, to get your bear hide ready for the tannery.
