On the Cover

by Harvey Zeigler—Marion, Illinois

Except for a few rare times, it has been traditional that we feature one of the eye-catching mounts from the NTA annual convention and competition for the fall cover. Several issues had passed without a bird on the cover, so we focused on the bird category winners that had that a vertical composition. Believe us, there were several that made it a very difficult decision. Some finalists you will see in this Gallery, and others will be in next issue’s coverage of the show. The gadwall trio by NTA judge Harvey Zeigler of Marion, Illinois, got the final nod. His entry won the Masters’ Choice Award, a special division in which NTA judges can enter and be selected by secret ballot by the show attendees. It is the second time Harvey’s taxidermy art has been selected for a Breakthrough cover.
