Compare 1997 and 2000
The
Survey Says
by Larry Blomquist
In 1997, Breakthrough published the results of the first comprehensive survey of taxidermists. In that survey, 271 survey forms were returned. For the 2000 survey, we decided to offer the form with a postage-paid mailer to make it a little easier and at no cost to our subscribers. It helped. We received 528 surveys to include in this year's totals. Of these, 516 came from the United States, 9 from Canada, 2 from New Zealand and 1 from South Africa. Although this survey should not be considered scientific, we feel it offers very legitimate results, especially on a national level, because of the high number of returns.
This review of the survey will focus on averages in the United States. With the results of two different surveys in hand, we will now be able to begin charting the direction that taxidermy and taxidermists are going. In many of our charts you will see a comparison of the 1997 figures with those in 2000. There are conclusions that can be drawn, and these are some of the things I would like to bring to your attention and discuss.
