BEING AN AVID WATERFOWLER and gamebird hunter for so many years, and wanting to collect all of the North American ducks, geese, and gamebirds for my studio, I’ve always pondered the “what if ’s” in the North American wingshooting world. What if passenger pigeons weren’t extinct? Could friends meet midday on a Saturday afternoon, spread out across a freshly cut millet or sorghum field, find a bit of shade under a tall broad-leafed red oak, and wait for an afternoon flight of the beautiful doves?
