
To complement Tom Weickum’s article in this issue on mounting bighorn sheep, we offer this reference study. Many
of the photos were taken and submitted by taxidermist Garry Senk of Wisconsin, who was on a scouting mission
with taxidermist Dale Manning. Gary sent this account of his trip with his photos.
“Dale Manning of Missoula, Montana, asked me to come out to film bighorns during the rut so I
booked a flight the next day. I filmed the sheep November 5-8, 2009, while we were in the
Lolo National Forest. We saw about 35 rams in four days in the mountains. I shot over 350
photos and two hours of videos of bighorns. The first time I heard two rams smack heads
I thought it was a rifle shot up the valley.
