BLACK MARLINS ARE HIGHLY SOUGHT-AFTER GAMEFISH,
caught primarily in the Pacific Ocean off Panama, Ecuador, Peru, and the
Great Barrier Reef in Australia.
The largest black marlin, weighing 1,560 pounds, was caught by Alfred
Glassell, Jr. on August 4, 1953, off the coast of Peru. Many anglers since then have
caught large blacks over the 1,000-pound benchmark.
