A LITTLE HISTORY -
European red deer (Cervus elaphus Linnaeus) (1758 ) and our
North American elk (Cervus elaphus canadensis) are considered by
many authorities to be the same species. (The words “Linnaeus”
and “canadensis” refer to subspecies, but the species name, at least
for the present time, for both deer is elaphus.) Some scientists
think there are so many differences between them that they
